Montenegro and the SEECP

The Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Đukanović signed in Bucharest, Romania, on October 23, 2008 the „Charter on Good Neighbourly Relations, Stability, Security, and Cooperation in South-East Europe,“ whereby Montenegro fulfilled and important international commitment and was permanently built into the structures and processes of importance for peace, security, stability, and progress of the region.

Montenegrin representatives continuously take part in all SEECP meetings, from political level meetings (MFA) to specialised meetings, like those of the Presidents of Parliaments, Ministers of Justice, Internal Affairs, Economy, and Defence, etc. All the meetings take place in the country presiding over the SEECP.

Montenegro assumed chairmanship over the SEECP on June 23, 2010 at the Summit of Heads of States and of Governments of the SEECP Member States in Istanbul.

During the Montenegrin Chairmanship-in-Office, the work will be focused on the improvement of democratic values and the promotion of European standards as the pillar of regional development and cooperation of SEECP member states. Special emphasis will be put on the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation within SEECP, as well as on the areas of justice and internal affairs in SEE region.

The Montenegrin chairmanship will aim towards the improvement of concrete project-oriented cooperation through the regional framework of the RCC, with the goal of maintaining long-term stability and dynamic development of all the countries of the region and the region as a whole. Montenegro will strongly support the strengthening of the role of the RCC as an operative body of the SEECP in the area of strengthening the principle of regional ownership, through ensuring the implementation of the RCC Strategy and Work Programme for the period 2011-2013.
