Montenegro will follow all the recommendations during the election process with EOM support

Government of Montenegro is fully committed to proper managing of the election process while making significant efforts to hold elections in democratic and fair atmosphere, it was stated on today’s meeting between acting General Director for Multilateral Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Veljko Milonjic and representatives of the Head Team of ODIHR’s Election Observation Mission (EOM).

Milonjic highlighted that EOM’s assistance, as well as of the meaningful number of international observers to be present at forthcoming elections, represents confirmation of Montenegro’s efforts to prepare adequately for holding the elections, especially having in mind current epidemic situation caused by corona virus, respectively measures and restrictions which will need to be respected accordingly. 

On that line, he expressed gratitude to interlocutors for continuous contribution of ODIHR to qualitative implementation of Montenegrin election process, which credibility is strengthened (improved) with presence of such eminent institution. 

Head of EOM in Montenegro Tamás Meszerics appreciated wholehearted and institutional support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other partners, in regard to providing of relevant information for their future engagement in Montenegro. 

Interlocutors appraised the visit of ODIHR’s Needs Assesment Mission (NAM) for Parliamentary Elections in Montenegro, at beginning of July this year, during which all the conditions for proper functioning of EOM were set. 

Additionally, interlocutors agreed on fact that participation of all relevant parties or their coalitions in elections is of great importance for legitimacy of election process.

It was expressed at the meeting that both sides praise substantive and successful cooperation between Montenegro and ODIHR so far, with expectation that it will be continued with full support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs to EOM, during their stay in Montenegro.
